The Stewardship Committee presents the first of what will be a series of profiles of St. Andrew's parishioners. Each profile features a letter from that parishioner, talking about how important St. Andrew's is to him or her. (If you are interested in writing such a letter, please contact Chuck Nyren or Sallie Harshbarger.)

Stewardship Profile: Henry Livingston

Dear Parishioner,

I am writing to tell you how excited I am about what is happening at St. Andrew’s. We have been blessed by unusual leadership over many years. That is about to change as our ministers accept more exciting work in the Episcopal Church and move on. During this time of change, great strides can be made to further expand upon what we have been given, but not without your help.

Each one of us brings something unique to the discussion table. Those who know St. Andrew’s, will have impressions that could be of great value, even those that might not seem valuable to others. Please consider how you might offer your ideas.

My personal experience at St. Andrew’s has been remarkably shaped by an “upside down boat” that brings families under its shelter. Almost every time I have gotten up out of bed on a Sunday morning, dressed the children, fed them, and before they realize they are going to church, get them into the car, I have left Church with something new that I have learned.

Fine to pray at night before bed, but, I find, that the fellowship of group worship is unsurpassed in bringing peace to one’s soul. How beautiful to see sunshine through stained glass; receive the Holy Eucharist with my children by my side; hear a poetic lesson or an honest and heart opening homily filled with personal and lordly experience. When I put my two dollars in the plate, I really have to add a large measure of thanks, knowing that this all happens without much more from me.

Why do I like St Andrew’s? I don’t; I love it. Just that simple. I am an Episcopalian; love that kind of service, appreciate those hymns, those readings, that way of worship. I have been to many other services; been inspired by many others, but long for the kind of service I love. I hope that this experience won’t just be sustained. I hope that it can be expanded upon. That is why I need you. Please let me know if you would be willing to meet with me, briefly; to give me your ideas. I would so appreciate the opportunity to meet you.

Yours sincerely,

Henry H. Livingston
