March 7-24, with opening reception March 7, 11-1:30:

Home Work

works by Rachel Cyrene Blackman

In what will be her second solo exhibition, Rachel Cyrene Blackman takes as her theme a "house" of worship. Photographs and original posters are about the internal and private places we inhabit and bring to the cycle of creative regeneration and experience. That creative work, as an impulse to connect, is a reach for the possibility of perfect articulation--much like faith itself.

In her recent photographic work, the Providence-based Blackman uses figurines such as toy soldiers and doll houses, to create curious and unexpected tableaus. In her original posters, she uses found images as the backdrop for short prose phrases and poems.

Blackman has a B.A. from Hampshire College and an M.F.A. from Bard College, both in musical composition. The founder and creative director of "afterWords POEtry That Sticks," www.afterwordspoetry.com, she is also a freelance designer, working under the name Cyrene Media.
